Device verification
These are hands-on checks on specific devices. They do not establish compatibility with every Android phone, Windows PC, or network.
Passed checks
- Quick Share over local Wi-Fi: Mac-to-Android and Android-to-Mac file transfers passed with one Pixel 8 Pro in an app Debug build.
- Nearby Drop QR: Mac-generated QR sending and Android-generated QR receiving passed with one Pixel 8 Pro. Android-to-Mac QR receiving was verified with the v2.3.2 Debug build; packaged Release behavior was not separately tested.
- Android USB MTP: browsing, upload, and download passed with Pixel and Nexus devices. The test payload was transferred over MTP; ADB was used only to read back the phone-side hash.
- Windows Quick Share: sending to and receiving from Nearby Drop passed with one Windows PC in a final Debug test build.
One device result does not guarantee compatibility with other phone models, Windows PCs, routers, or networks. The packaged Release app has not been separately device-tested for all listed flows.
Different Quick Share and QR routes
Google supports direct Quick Share and AirDrop interoperability on Pixel 8a and later and selected Android models. Other devices may use Google's QR fallback, which can require internet and temporarily store an encrypted file on Google servers for up to 24 hours. Nearby Drop's Mac-generated QR and Android-generated QR receive flows are separate routes. Check Google's current device and route guidance before choosing a workflow.
Not verified
- LTE-only phone-hotspot discovery; the mobile connection was unstable during testing.
- Other Android models, additional Windows PCs, and every router or network configuration.
- Signed/notarized clean install and upgrade on Intel or Apple silicon; no Developer ID identity or notarization credentials were available.
- A real-world maximum transfer speed. Loopback protocol tests are not a performance benchmark.
